Why is particle size important?
Taken by itself, particle size information has an intrinsic worth but it becomes much more valuable when it can be correlated to much bigger and more important factors.
Such factors might be:
• whether the efficiency of the process which involves the particles can be improved by changing the size distribution slightly
• can the flowability of the material be optimised to ensure that there are no blockages or flooding of the process
• will the blend of several powders be uniform and consistent
• whether an inhalation drug substance can be delivered to the correct part of the lung at the correct dose
